Maya Contreras’ love of the arts has given her a substantial background in Writing (playwriting & interviewing), Performance (acting & drumming), and Management (production).
Her interview credits include: Iconic Designer Calvin Klein, Filmmaker Larry Clark (KIDS, Wassup Rockers, Bully), The Cast of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Comedian Bill Burr, TV Producer & Writer Stephen Merchant (The Office, Extras, UK), Founder of the SXSW Music & Film Conference Lewis Black, Television Chef Sara Moulton, Legendary MCs- KRS-ONE and Pharoahe Monch, Editor-in-Chief of COMPLEX magazine, Noah Callahan-Bever, Award Winning Director and Producer Jeremy Simmons (Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce, Life with La Toya, TransGeneration) and legendary New York Graffiti crew The Tats Cru, just to name a few.
As an Artist Manager, Maya had the privilege of working with: Academy Award, Emmy, Tony, Oscar-winner Marvin Hamlisch ("A Chorus Line"), Academy Award-winner Bill Conti ("Rocky"), Tony Award winning Actress Betty Buckley ("Cats"), Oscar and BAFTA award winning actor Joel Grey ("Cabaret"), Kennedy Center Honoree and legendary pianist Leon Fleisher, Grammy award winning conductor Sir Simon Rattle, and Chief Conductor of the New York Philharmonic, Lorin Maazel and BAFTA award winning filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich (“Last Picture Show”).
As a drummer, Maya has worked with producer Dallas Austin (TLC, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson), Professor Griff (Public Enemy) composed the music for the Jomadi/Crossroads production of Six from the Rainbow, and was a drum student of Grammy Award winning drummer Woody Williams.
Some of Maya's theatre roles include: Mary in THE WOMEN, Donna Lucia D'Alvadorez in CHARLIE'S AUNT, Lady Capulet in ROMEO & JULIET, Sissy Hankshaw in EVEN COWGIRLS GET THE BLUES, Rita Boyle in PRELUDE TO A KISS, Nurse/Lily in AS/IS.
As a professional writer, Maya has covered New York Nightlife to the current climate of the film, music, art and fashion industries. Her books, “The Him Book” & “Eight Weeks of Bruce” are available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com, and her play “Nervous Breakdown the Musical” was an alternate at the FRINGEnyc Festival 2011.
Her play "The Bloodline of Shadrick Grace" will premiere at the FRINGEnyc Festival in August 2014.
Maya received her BFA from Florida State University in Theatre.
